Today's the day....

This is the only bit that I haven't been looking forward to!

GRANDMA (my mum) - She is the best mum ever, we wouldn't be where we are today without her help each and every day. From dropping our kidlets to school, pickups, after-school activities, weekend sports, loads of sleepovers, movie dates and the list goes on...    You name it shes there cheering them on.
No.1 has been saying for weeks (maybe even months) that she doesn't want to go on this trip, not the trip its self but what’s she’s leaving behind. If you know me and my family, you would know why.. For those of you that don’t know us personally, the WHY is that she is not wanting to miss out on school, sports and most of all Gma 💜

 The girls stayed at mum's last night (for the last sleepover for a while) which humbles me that they have the greatest connection with there grandparents. Cause some people don’t have this!

Dinner at Beck and Richards was fantastic. I’m not sure that Beck and Adam have been apart for this long before. But thank goodness for modern technology with Zoom etc.... Beck has been so busy with the cutest little puppies, Bottle feeds in-between mums feeds and making sure that 12 little rascals have what they need (clean bedding, full bellies etc) Mother (puppy mum) of the year to you ðŸ˜˜

 As we head out the road we all have very mixed emotions. Some excited and some sad. Which is a good thing, we stop about an hour and a half out the road to test a lunch break out. How good is it that we can just stop on the side of the road and have lunch with a cuppa and use the loo (lockup) and head out again. Best decision ever Blakey..

Let's get real about the cost of a trip like this... When I started to process the thought of this trip and how much it was going to cost us. I started to follow FB groups and one thing I found was that no one talked about MONEY, and how much it would cost to travel with a caravan and three kids on a half lap of Australia. So here it is... I've kept every single receipt for the whole eight weeks!! The Caravan - 5 birth   First off, we don't own a caravan - we decided to hire one. I didn't like the thought of buying a 50 to 70,000 caravan for our first trip (what if I didn't like it, what if the kids hated it) and what if we get home and the caravan would sit there and not be used for a while.  So to hire the Van for 9 weeks, it was a total of $6900, $1000 was a bond! How we saved with a family of 5... A lot of people have been asking me how did I afford or save for this trip, seems people like talking about money so I'm going to fill a few blanks in with the $$ and please let me know if I can help with anything. For about 12 months Adam (my adorable husband) has been NAGGING me to commit to this trip! Think I'm joking... I'm not! So after month and months of small fights, I finally caved after he said: "If you don't want to go, ill go by myself!" Selfish hey... Rewind... November 17 (OK OK ILL GO) Now to work out how we are going to afford this trip! So we both have really good jobs but as a normal Australian family we have overheads right, and they won't be going anytime soon. We sit down every couple of months a talk about our finances. So we had a rough idea how much we could scrape by with and for how long to be about to save  $10 000. Now, I don't know any normal working family that can save...

Stuff you don't think about!

A small amount of regret as we try to settle back into the routine with work and school... I know we're only away for a short time (8 weeks) and there are plenty of families that do massive trips, but this is my spin on things after coming back. We had good intentions to do as much school work as we could while away... The first two weeks are school holidays, so they get some time to enjoy the holiday. The third week we did do school work each day and then it got a little later each day and then we started missing days then we only had like 10 days and we'd be home. When we got home, we gave the kids a few days to bum around, then they went back to school on the Thursday and Friday (nice short week to start with) It went well, all their friends were happy to see them back. The first full week back and a few things are starting to become noticeable that they have had almost a full term off. I was getting reports back from school that the kids were a little behind!
